Speaking Freely

Go to updates.

The purpose of this post is for pictures of words. The thoughts behind these signs are the second and most hardened front in the transformation of the Middle East...the most important and ultimate goal in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and On Terror. Incidentally, these pictures are from a LONDON protest by Hizb ut-Tahrir.

These beliefs, to the degree they are honestly held are simply incompatible with a free, liberal, society. One of them must give way.

For that reason, NO concessions should be given to this side. They should be allowed to protest and even show signs like these. But they absolutely should get nothing in the way of an apology out of it. I know, I know. That ship has sailed. The Danish government has apologized. The newspaper that published these cartoons has apologized...twice. I wonder why it didn't make any difference?

From the Lebanese Blogger Forum:

Let me tell you a story... A Danish author was writing a book about the Prophet and founder of Islam, Mohammed. He complained that no one would illustrate his book. A big Danish newspaper challenged anyone to make those illustrations and promised to publish them. That happened on September 30th.

One young Imam felt insulted. Instead of doing what normal people would do, SUE those involved, he tried to ignite the masses. The Danish muslims weren't completely infuriated as (they seem to have mastered those two aforementioned tricks)... so the Imam took the caricatures, added a few that were not part of the story, but that would definitely incite anger (the prophet as a pig, the prophet as a dog); very blunt caricatures that would easily light the cummulative fuse of the muslim world... and toured the muslim capitals, showing these photos and building up anger....wham... bam... burn the embassies! Acting like terrorists ought to show the world that you're not.... That makes sense.

Down with Europe. Ignorant fools. Death to this and that... What a prosperous industry. We produce banners, t-shirts, molotov cocktails... Give us a name, any name, and you can have your "death to ..." within the hour. Burn yourself, it's all for a good cause. Blow yourself up, that'll send a message.

"Most Muslim organisations condemned the placard slogans as the work of unrepresentative, extremist factions. The general secretary of the Muslim Council of Britain, Sir Iqbal Sacranie, blamed 'agents provocateurs'.

Hizb ut-Tahrir, which organised Saturday's protest, agreed. Its spokesman, Taji Mustafa, said yesterday: "We condemn those [placards], those are not acceptable. Many Muslim groups have condemned the Friday protests and the images that were used then ... we must not at this time stoop to the level of those who want to resort to insulting the prophet of Islam as a terrorist."

Annotation:
Agents provocateur (n): A clandestine outside agent that infiltrates an organization or movement to expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit, or otherwise neutralize its activities.

So Muslim Council of Britain is even denying these were *real* Muslim protestors. Give me a break. And as for Hizb ut-Tahrir condemning these protests which THEY organized, that's laughable. Hizb ut-Tahrir is an extemist Muslim organization that has been banned in several Central Asian countries for suspected terrorist activities. When I was a kid, the Cleveland Indians' management had "Ten Cent Beer Night" on the same night it had a promotion where they gave out little wooden souvenir baseball bats. It seemed like a *cool* idea until the riot broke out. Those signs were one of those *cool* ideas that don't look so clever 24 hours later.
